Unlike many structural steels, AR is not governed by any ASTM code or spec and does not require specific chemical composition. In fact, the composition of AR steel varies from mill to mill. Instead, hardness - measured in Brinell units - is the most important factor for engineers when evaluating AR steel plate material.
